I traveled through Bishkek, Ala Archa National Park, Chon-Kemin Valley and Song-Kul Lake, and Kyrgyzstan became one of those places where I kept thinking: “How is this real?”
Mountains, horses, yurts, lakes and huge open landscapes…. without Switzerland-level prices.
A basic Kyrgyzstan trip can cost around €17–30 ($20–35) per day, although private drivers, horse trekking and remote tours can push your budget higher.

Tip: One of my favorite experiences was traveling to Song-Kul Lake, where I spent the night in a traditional yurt at more than 3,000 meters (9,800 feet) above sea level. Waking up surrounded by mountains, horses and almost nothing else was unforgettable.

Albania is still affordable, but it’s definitely not as cheap as it was when I visited in 2023. More travelers have discovered the country since then, and prices, especially along the coast have gone up.
Budget travel is currently around €30–45 ($35–53)/day, while the Riviera becomes more expensive during July and August.

I traveled to Baku in 2026, and Azerbaijan is the kind of destination I love: interesting, different and still a little under the radar. I’m surprised more people aren’t talking about it. Start in Baku for the food, architecture and city life, but don’t stop there. Continue to Gabala for the mountains, Sheki for its old-town charm, or the Quba region for hiking, villages and beautiful landscapes.
Azerbaijan has a lot more to offer once you leave the capital. For budget travel, you can expect to spend around €30–45 ($35–53) per day.

You can explore Skopje, head to Lake Ohrid for turquoise water and mountain views, and visit Matka Canyon just outside the capital. I went kayaking at Matka Canyon and loved it. It was such a nice break from the city and a really easy day trip.

Argentina
Argentina is a great option if you want big landscapes, delicious food and cities full of personality.
You can spend your days exploring Buenos Aires, wandering around Salta and Jujuy in the colourful northwest, or heading south toward Patagonia.
In Buenos Aires and the northwest, you can travel on around €30–40 ($35–47) per day. Patagonia is more expensive, with a budget of around €55–80 ($65–95) per day.
I spent more in Patagonia, and I still remember paying around €6 ($7) for a coffee and thinking, okay… Patagonia!
You can still save money by eating at local spots, staying outside the most touristy areas and hiking independently when trails don’t require a guide. And honestly, if you have a little extra to spend, Patagonia is worth it. The mountains and landscapes are incredible.
Buuut you can find much cheaper local places to eat and drink if you look beyond the touristy spots. And if you’re comfortable hiking alone, many trails don’t require a tour, which can save you money.
So, if you want to spend a little more in Patagonia, it’s worth it. The mountains and landscapes are absolutely wow.
